February 2026 What happens when bodies, materials, and identities merge, dissolve, and mimic one another? Laura Gaiser invites you to immerse yourself with her in a world where fluid transitions between human and animal, dream and reality, pleasure and trauma are explored. In her exhibition “Mimicry,” Gaiser transforms Künstlerhaus Meinersen into a space of in-betweenness—a place where the boundaries between different worlds dissolve. Using stop-motion film, video installations, photography, and performative costumes, the artist creates an atmospheric visual language that unites tenderness, violence, beauty, and disquiet. Through the interplay of hybrid bodies and unique costumes, fragmented yet profound images emerge, opening a space for transformation and expanded perception. Join us for the opening and experience how the body, in its vulnerable, wild, and transformative power, takes center stage as a site of healing. Summer academy at the Künstlerhaus The summer academy gives you new perspectives and impulses for your own artistic work. You will be accompanied by a team of current and former scholarship holders of the Künstlerhaus. pictures of the place images of the landscape Meinersen town hall Wikipedia Meinersen history Merian engraving from 1654 In the Middle Ages, Meinersen was the seat of the "Meinersen family", who were first mentioned in 1147. They received their dominions directly as imperial fiefs and were not subordinate to any prince or duke. From 1248 to 1260, Oda von Meinersen was the abbess of the combined Gernrode and Frose monasteries. In 1292, troops of the Duke of Brunswick conquered the moated castle of Meinersen, which stood on the Weinberg district east of the Oker. In 1316, Duke Otto the "Strict of Lüneburg" destroyed the castle and added Meinersen to the principality of Lüneburg. Around 1350 a castle was built on the west side of the 0ker. During the HiIdesheim collegiate feud (1518-23) there was severe damage, but as a Merian engraving from 1654 shows, the palace complex was restored. In its place, the office building, todays artists house (Künstlerhaus), was built in 1765. The family von Meinersen died out in 1367 with the death of Bernhard II. In 1428 Meinersen reverted to the Duchy of Brunswick and was then loaned or pledged to various owners. In 1532 the duchy set up the Meinersen office, which existed until 1885 and collected taxes from the residents. The clerks house Former office building - today "Künstlerhaus" The clerks house (Amtsschreiberhaus) was built in 1745 as the official residence of the senior official . The two-story half-timbered building with pink partitions is slightly behind set north of the main street. At the dissolution of the Meinersen office in 1885, became an agricultural school there set up, which existed there until 1965. After a short transition period as a police station the municipal administration moved 1971 into the historic building. 1986-90 the new seat of the joint municipality Meinersen was created. For this purpose, the restored Official clerks house and an equally old one Outbuildings are connected by a glass corridor. Official clerks house - today part of the town hall Künstlerhaus The former office building of Meinersen is a two-storey half-timbered building from 1765 directly on the main street. It was built as the office the officials of the Meinersen government office. Meinersen Castle used to stand here, and remains of the wall can still be found in the ground. After the dissolution of the office in 1895, the house served as the official residence of the judge at the district court until 1959. After that it was used as a kindergarten. 1989 it was set up as an artist-house (Künstlerhaus), with six studio apartments. Here highly talented, young artists from Germany and abroad can work artistically for a year in rural seclusion.. Ping Qiu was born in Wuhan PR China in 1961, studied painting at the Fine Art Academy in Hangzhou and went to the HdK nach  Berlin on the recommendation of the Chinese sculptor Shinkichi Tajiri . Here she initially continued to paint in her traditional Chinese technique, but was overwhelmed by the European culture shock and stated that she could not continue this painting in Germany. She tried to paint "European" but could not overcome her internalized realism. She finally managed to emancipate herself from traditional Chinese art through the medium of installation. This was completely new to her and here she was finally able to develop new artistic potential. In particular, the red rubber gloves became her preferred material. She sewed these together and arranged them on bodies of water to create a poetic impression of water lilies, reminiscent of the water lilies painted by Claude Monet. The finger flowers have become her trademark, but her work is far "... more than delicate flowers". She has already shown these in New York, on the Grand Canal in Venice, at the Biennale in Havana, in the Mies van der Rohe House in Berlin, in Korea, Worpswede and now in Meinersen. Project: Figurative drawing and painting from Ukraine - Flight, War, Arrival Final exhibition of the Bösenberg Scholarship Foundation Kateryna Tkachenko ∙ Iryna Vorona ∙ Dmytro Dotsenko Opening: Fri. April 12, 7:00 p.m Opening hours: April 12th - May 5th, 2024, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m Speaking at the opening: Andreas Schuster, 1st Chairman / Dirk Bösenberg, Bösenberg Foundation / Jochen Weise, Artistic Director Musical accompaniment: Selin Özer, flute Kateryna Tkachenko Comes from Odessa and is 21 years old. She is a draftsman. In her work she prefers to use ballpoint pens to draw expressive portraits. She observes people in their everyday lives, studies their lifestyle, their whereabouts, their consumer behavior and compares them with people from their homeland. Through these observations she develops a feeling for life in her new surroundings. Iryna Vorona was born in Kyiv in 1987. She received her doctorate on the theory and history of the arts and received her diploma as an artist. In Meinersen she draws exclusively with charcoal pencil. She develops image ideas on the subject of suffering. Faces distorted in pain, grieving people, desperate mothers, protective gestures, frightened children, loving hugs, gestural solidarity. Impressively realistic and experienced physically and sensually. Dmytro Dotsenko was born in Zaporizhia in 1994, doctor of arts and master of arts in monument painting. In his works he focuses on rethinking the traditions of the Renaissance, Baroque and avant-garde in the context of events and the perception of the world with contemporary themes and senses. Thus, he cannot ignore the great tragedies and challenges of the Russian attack on his homeland and reflects on them through large-scale war dramas, painted in traditional Ukrainian monument painting. Kateryna Tkachenko and Iryna Vorona were able to flee Ukraine in 2022, while the young painter Dmytro Dotsenko was not allowed to leave the country and is supported with the scholarship in Kyiv. In the Künstlerhaus Meinersen, safe and free from financial constraints, the two artists reflect on their traumatic experiences during Russia's attack on Ukraine and work on them artistically. Gemeinde Meinersen / Samtgemeinde Meinersen International call for applications for the Art Scholarship 2024/25 T he municipality and joint municipality of Meinersen have set themselves the goal of promoting young contemporary art and, at the same time, providing current impetus to the cultural spectrum of the region. To promote this goal, they are offering a scholarship with a residency at Künstlerhaus Meinersen. The scholarship is designed for a maximum of twelve months.
