Summer academy at the Künstlerhaus

The summer academy gives you new perspectives and impulses for your own artistic work. You will be accompanied by a team of current and former scholarship holders of the Künstlerhaus. Thanks to funding from the Lüneburg Regional Association, you will work in small groups and can be looked after individually. We try to take all wishes into account as best as possible when dividing them into groups. An exchange is always possible on site, just ask the artist team!

In this workshop, I would like to work with you to create sculptural objects made of clay that move between the poles of everyday objects and art objects.
After an introduction to the cultural history of ceramic objects, the variety of shapes of vessels, their functionality in everyday life, and a possible ritual/personal meaning will be discussed.
Under individual guidance, the ideas of the course participants are developed with the help of drawings and implemented with their own hands in the construction technique.
You are welcome to bring ideas or objects as role models. Sound and tools will be provided

In this course, painterly techniques are combined, expanded or reinvented. What traces does a hand brush leave in acrylic paint? What structure does a steel sponge leave behind in the picture? We throw one or the other design rule overboard and allow ourselves freedom in the creative process. The participants can experiment with different means by painting, wiping, scratching, spraying and thus expanding their repertoire. The starting point for the experimental approach are still lifes that invite the investigation of structures and forms. Individual image concepts are developed and implemented under individual guidance.

In this basic course, I would like to introduce the participants to various artistic techniques and help them to recognize their own advantages and strengths. Together we free ourselves from demands for perfection and free ourselves from the fear of the blank canvas. My expertise in the areas of acrylic and watercolor painting, drawing and a wide variety of printing techniques as well as a wide range from abstraction to naturalism in my own work enable me to demonstrate different techniques and also to pass on tips and tricks on how the participants* can develop their own visual language can find

In this workshop I try to show that there are many ways to create a recognizable portrait. The starting point is a photo template. It begins with the precise transfer to the painting surface. After that, all paths to the goal are open. Whether acrylic, oil or watercolor, the color is in the foreground. During the course, the aim is to achieve the desired or “undesirable” result in a playful and free way. It's more about painting over and repainting and letting yourself be surprised and reacting than meticulously copying the template. Bring along - photo templates, - soft pencils if available.

As the head of SOAK, I coordinate the workshops and the final exhibition and am always the contact person for all participants.
This year's workshop is aimed at those who are busy with their own ideas and work projects and want to realize them with professional support. The focus of the work should be on painting. We discuss the work in an open group so that all participants can join the discussion and learn.
